Four Candidates Cleared for Presidential Election in Botswana

The High Court has confirmed that four out of five candidates had the required support to run for presidential office in Botswana under the law. Mokgweetsi Masisi, who is seeking a second term as president, is among the four presidential candidates.

The other candidates are Duma Boko, leader of the opposition coalition, the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC); Dumelang Saleshando, of the Botswana Congress Party (BCP), and Mephato Reatile, of the Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF). Botswana Republican Party candidate Biggie Butale failed to meet the eligibility criteria.

Botswana operates as a multi-party democracy, holding general elections every five years.
