TikTok Removes 11,9 Million Videos in Africa for 'Violations'

In its continued effort to reaffirm commitment to online safety, TikTok, a social media platform, removed nearly 11.9 million videos from nine African countries - Egypt, Nigeria, South Africa, Algeria, Somalia, Libya, Ethiopia, Sudan, and Morocco - for violating integrity, advertising, privacy, and security standards.

Egypt had the highest number of removals at 2.75 million, followed by Nigeria and Algeria. In South Africa, 143,998 accounts were banned for rule violations, with 137,663 of these removals due to users suspected of being under 13. TikTok removed over 2 million videos in Nigeria for policy violations.

Over a billion people use TikTok and millions of content pieces are posted every day.
