South Africa Slams Trump's 'Dangerous Lies and Threats'

Civil society organizations are outraged by U.S. President Donald Trump's "dangerous lies and threats". In a statement, they wrote that the idea that South Africa is "confiscating land and treating certain classes of people very badly" is demonstrably untrue and would be absurd if "this lie were not now being propounded at the very highest levels of the U.S. government".

This follows Trump's recent remarks in which he claimed that human rights violations were occurring over alleged land confiscation and mistreatment of "certain classes of people" and threatened to cut off U.S. funding until investigations were completed.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa responded, saying his country follows strict constitutional and legal frameworks for land expropriation.
