'Libya’s Fragile Stability at Risk Amid Political Deadlock'

Libya's fragile stability is under growing threat due to entrenched political divisions, economic mismanagement, and ongoing human rights violations, UN Political Affairs chief Rosemary DiCarlo told the UN Security Council.

She said that Libya's unity and stability are being undermined by "entrenched divisions, economic mismanagement, and ongoing human rights violations." Economic governance disputes, including the lack of a unified budget, further exacerbate the crisis, threatening the Central Bank's efforts to stabilize the country's finances.

DiCarlo also raised concerns over human rights abuses, including mass graves discovered after raids on human trafficking sites and called for urgent justice system reforms. She urged international support for newly appointed UN Special Representative Hanna Tetteh to address these challenges and advance Libya's path to stability.
