Kenyan Hospitals Warn Of Crisis Over Unpaid Insurance Bills

The Rural and Urban Private Hospitals Association of Kenya has urged the government to establish a "sustainable health financing model" to prevent the impasse over unpaid health insurance bill from escalating. The group said the current structure under the Social Health Authority (SHA), which manages health insurance in the country, is "overly complex and impractical".

The health workers have expresssed concern about the unpaid arrears, warning that mounting financial challenges are "jeopardizing the sustainability of healthcare institutions across the country".

Since its introduction in 2024, the new healthcare scheme has experienced challenges, leaving some MPs questioning its efficiency.
