South Africa's Cabinet Gives Finance Minister Options for Budget

The Cabinet has completed its input into the 2025 Budget, which will be presented to MPs by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana.

Ministers held a special meeting to discuss the Budget. for a second time after they rejected a reworked Budget without the 2% VAT increase. Godongwana was mandated by the Cabinet to select from their discussed options to fund the Budget to mitigate the impact on poor and middle-income households, and support economic growth.

The Budget speech was postponed in February due to disagreements on the proposed VAT increase among the parties in the Government of National Unity (GNU). Godongwana is now set to present the Budget to lawmakers on March 12.
