'We're Afraid to Return Home' - DR Congo Crisis Deepens

The humanitarian situation in the country continues to deteriorate as M23 rebels capture more territorities in the eastern region. In Goma, the capital of the North Kivu Province, criminal activities have reportedly surged, with home invasions, kidnappings and vehicle hijackings targeting humanitarian agencies.

There has been a similar increase in crime and insecurity in Bukavu, which the rebels also captured in their latest advance, aid workers have said.

The UN peacekeeping mission MONUSCO has warned that the rebels continue to make advances beyond areas they have captured, which "remain unstable and highly unpredictable".
